Cartagena, Colombia

Our Cartagena plant is committed to upholding the highest standards in safety, health and environmental (SH&E) practices, while also striving to make a positive and lasting impact in our local community.

Built in 1964, our plant has two manufacturing units that produce carbon blacks for elastomer reinforcement and specialty carbon blacks for customers around the world. Today, we consist of a team of approximately 75 passionate and collaborative employees.

Our team supports a variety of community outreach activities, including nutrition relief in local schools, fundraising for flood victims, computer donations to children's charities, and fundraising for children with cancer.

Foundation of Talented Children and Youth

Our colleagues in Cartagena volunteered at weekly extracurricular classes to 108 children and youth from the local communities with the Fundación Niños y Jóvenes Talentosos (Foundation of Talented Children and Youth).

The classes included values, mathematics, physics, English and office automation. Our colleagues  volunteered for a total of 770 hours with the organization in 2021.

Giving Back to the Community

Many employees at our Cartagena, Colombia, facility participated in Mamonal Foundation projects.

This foundation funds a multitude of community projects with a focus on raising the quality of life, generating economic prosperity in the community and reducing the inequality gap in the population of Cartagena and surrounding areas. We were one of the founding companies of the Mamonal Foundation in Cartagena in 1975, and our Regional General Manager and Colombia Country Manager, Guillermo del Castillo, serves as the chairman. One way the Cartagena site contributed in a meaningful way was through the sponsorship of the Boomerang Scholarship project, through which bilingual technology scholarships were awarded to 12 low-income students with outstanding academic performance. In addition, 90% of the employees made voluntary donations that were matched by the facility to support the development  of a children's daycare center for a nearby community in need.
