With operations beginning in 1992, our Shanghai plant is one of our first facilities to start the production of carbon black in China.
Our Shanghai plant was established in 1988 as Cabot's first plant in China and the first foreign investment chemical enterprise after China's reform and opening in Shanghai. After decades of development, our Shanghai plant now owns three units of carbon black production lines, which output 170,000 tons of carbon black, and an Energy Center that produces 700,000 tons of steam annually. The plant has earned a very good reputation in its community engagement, excellent SH&E performance, economic contribution, and industrial sustainability.
Our Shanghai Plant has around 80 employees and is the cradle of talents for Cabot China, conveying many outstanding senior leaders and managers to Cabot, including China, AP Region, and Global. The plant maintains first-class operational performance in the RM network, such as having the highest OEE and keeping the record for Energy Center continuous running. The plant always keeps innovating and optimizing the technology to achieve manufacturing excellence and build a sustainable future.

The group of 25 students was welcomed at our regional headquarters by Jeff Zhu, Executive Vice President and President, Performance Chemicals Segment and Asia Pacific Region, to learn about our daily business operations and engage with the management team. The students then visited our Shanghai carbon black manufacturing plant where they were given a tour by the plant’s production manager.
